Due to the political upheaval in Haiti over the last several years, it is no surprise that there has been a mass exodus of Haitians from Haiti. Many of these families have ended up in Philadelphia.
There is a Haitian proverb that says, “Men anpil, chay pa Lou”—with many hands, the load is light. This is where the name for the local organization Men Anpil (All Hands Together) comes from. They’ve been helping Haitian families settle in Philly since 2021.
Woy Magazine is partnering with Men Anpil to do a drive for about four families who are new to the city and could use help furnishing their homes. Here’s how it works: We’ve put together an Amazon wishlist, but it is not the only way to contribute.
For those of you who are local, if you wish to donate an item on the list that you already own (in great condition), fill out this Google form. Other roles, like driving and furniture assembly, can also be signed up for here.
