Honoring freedom where it began: Fort-Liberté’s annual commemoration of Haiti’s independence
In recognition of Fort-Liberté’s historical place of Haïti’s drafting and the first proclamation of its Act of Independence, Lesly Voltaire, president of Haiti’s Presidential Transitional Council, issued a decree on November 29, 2024, officially designating the date as a national day for reflection and research on the historical events surrounding Haiti’s independence.
