Two Haitian cultural events in Indianapolis to keep on your radar this week

Two vibrant events celebrating Haitian culture will take place in Indianapolis this week, offering attendees of all ages the chance to experience Haiti’s rich sounds, dynamic movements, and captivating stories.

Haitian Dance Workshops

When: Thursday, December 19, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Where: Iris Rosa Dance Studio, 1145 E. 22nd Street, Suite 201, Indianapolis, IN 46202

Delve deeper into Haiti’s rich dance traditions with this two-session workshop:

• Contemporary Dance: 6:00 PM – 6:50 PM
• Haitian Folklore Dance: 7:10 PM – 8:00 PM

• Ronael Chery: Accomplished folklore dancer, known for blending tradition and modernity.
• Frantziou Decline: Celebrated choreographer with years of experience in Haitian dance traditions.

These workshops, part of the “Re-Imagining Haitian Migration through Arts & Storytelling” initiative, are an excellent opportunity to explore Haitian dance techniques.

Tap Tap Evening: Exploring the Sound & Sacred Dance of Haiti

When: Saturday, December 21, 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Where: Central Library, 40 East Saint Clair Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204

Named after Haiti’s iconic brightly colored buses, Tap Tap Evening is an event designed for cultural immersion.

Schedule Highlights:

• Exhibit (1:30 PM – 2:30 PM): Browse Haitian crafts, meet local artisans and authors, and discover community resources.
• Speeches (2:35 PM – 2:50 PM): Hear from event organizers, including the Indianapolis Public Library and Damien Center.
• Cultural Performances (2:50 PM – 4:00 PM): Enjoy live music, captivating storytelling by Jacques Adler Jean Pierre, and a dance performance by renowned choreographer Ronael Chery.
