SeJoe launches AI interview podcast with Haiti’s historical icons

Comedian Alexandre Ducasse, better known as SeJoe, is stepping into the AI arena with a new podcast series titled Time Capsule with SeJoe. 

Launched earlier this month, the Haitian American comedian uses artificial intelligence to create fictional conversations with historical figures—some Haitian, some not—but all central to discussions of power, legacy, and resistance.

In an interview with The Haitian Times, Ducasse shared that the inspiration for the series came after a conversation with L’Union Suite founder, Whenda “Wanda” Tima, on how to drum up excitement for his second special and re-engage his audience. In 2020, Ducasse’s one-hour standup comedy special Nou Chaje ak Pwoblèm (We Got A Lot of Problems) debuted on Amazon Prime.

Following the conversation with Tima, he had a “creative brainstorm” session with his wife, and from there, the idea for the series was born.

So far, the series includes fictional interviews with figures like Toussaint Louverture, Catherine Flon, Cécile Fatiman, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Jean Baptiste Point du Sable. 

In each episode, SeJoe introduces the guest with an irreverent tagline, often with pointed social commentary.

“This guy [Toussaint Louverture] beat the English, beat the Spanish, beat the French but the only thing he could not beat was BAD DECISIONS,” SeJoe said in one episode.

When speaking with a fictitious Catherine Flon, SeJoe said: “This woman didn’t only sew fabric, she sewed respect, she sewed dignity, she sewed hope.”

“This man tried to bleach his entire country with his ego, but forgot to bleach his own family tree,” SeJoe said while introducing Rafael Trujillo.
