Boston, MA — Born in St. Marc, Haiti, on Sept. 17, 1948, to Windsor Julien and Saintamène Adrien, Robert Julien, affectionately known as “Bob,” dedicated his life to education and community service. After completing his primary education with the Frères de l’Instruction Chrétienne in St. Marc and his secondary studies at Collège Franck Etienne in Port-au-Prince, Robert pursued higher studies at the École Normale des Frères de l’Impasse Laveaud. He later became a teacher at several renowned institutions in Haiti, including Petit Séminaire Collège St. Martial, Centre d’Étude Secondaire, and École de Commerce Gérard Armand Joseph.
In 1979, Robert married Claudine Limage. Two years later, in August 1981, he moved to Boston to join his wife and start a new chapter of his life. There, he continued his education at Roxbury Community College and the University of Massachusetts Boston. The couple welcomed two children, Kratchny and Kritchney, and were blessed with three grandchildren: Jordyn, Madisyn, and Kameryn.
Robert quickly became an integral part of Boston’s Haitian community. He was an active member of the Boston Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully for over 30 years. He also worked for three decades at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, contributing to both his professional and spiritual communities. His passion for radio led him to devote time to Radio Echo Evangelique, where he found a platform to engage with and inspire others.
Despite his commitments in Boston, Robert never lost sight of his homeland. His greatest dream was to build hospitals in every city across Haiti, a vision he worked toward until his final days. Robert was also the recipient of several city contracts to provide services to Boston’s Haitian community, solidifying his legacy as a bridge between his native Haiti and his adopted home.
In addition to his wife, Claudine, and their children, Robert is survived by his bonus daughter, Elsie Saint Louis the executive director of Haitians United for Progress (HAUP), his daughter-in-law, Menderca, his sister, Yolette Julien, and two goddaughters, Lunie Fenelon Joseph and Cynthia Dorelien. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Robert’s impact on those around him was profound, as evidenced by the outpouring of support his family received during his illness and following his passing.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at Boston Missionary Baptist Church (336 Dudley St., Roxbury, MA), with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to support Robert’s dream project of building hospitals in Haiti. Donations can be made at https://hobhh.org/donation.
Robert Julien will be remembered as a man of faith, service, and unwavering commitment to his community, both in Haiti and in Boston. His legacy of education, service, and compassion will continue to inspire generations.
