Important deadlines

  • Sept. 20: Ballots distributed to military and overseas citizen voters who have requested them.
  • Sept. 24: Absentee ballots distributed to all other voters who have requested them.
  • Oct. 11: Voter registration deadline (5 p.m.).*
  • Oct. 17: In-person early voting begins; same-day registration available.
  • Oct. 29: Absentee ballot request deadline (5 p.m.).*
  • Nov. 2: In-person early voting ends (3 p.m.).
  • Nov. 5: General Election Day.
  • Nov. 5: Absentee ballot return deadline (7:30 p.m.).*

North Carolina Governor

Every North Carolina resident will vote for a new governor on the November ballot. There are five candidates running. They are:

Measure name Summary
Citizenship Requirement for Voting Amendment (Statewide) Constitutional amendment to provide that only a citizen of the United States who is 18 years of age and otherwise possesses the qualifications for voting shall be entitled to vote at any election in this State. Click for more details
Local Sales and Use Tax Measure (Guilford) Local sales and use tax at the rate of one-quarter percent (0.25%) in addition to all other State and local sales and use taxes.Click for more details
Public Libraries Bond Measure (Wake) Additional property taxes may be levied on property located in the County of Wake, North Carolina in an amount sufficient to pay the principal and interest on bonds if approved. The order adopted would authorize $142,000,000 LIBRARY BONDS.Click for more details
Housing Bond Measure (Charlotte) Additional property taxes may be levied on property located in the City of Charlotte in an amount sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on bonds if approved by the following ballot question. The order authorizes $100,000,000 of bonds plus interest to provide funds to pay the capital costs of housing projects.Click for more details
Neighborhood Improvements Bond Measure (Charlotte) Additional property taxes may be levied on property located in the City of Charlotte in an amount sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on bonds if approved. The order shall authorize $61,700,000 of bonds plus interest to provide funds.Click for more details
Transportation Bond Measure (Charlotte)  Additional property taxes may be levied on property located in the City of Charlotte in an amount sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on bonds if approved by the following ballot question. The order shall authorize $238,300,000 of bonds plus interest to provide funds to pay the capital costs. Click for more details
Parks and Recreation Bond Measure (Durham) Additional property taxes may be levied on property located in the City of Durham in an amount sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on bonds if approved.
