For many young men and women, basketball is more than just a sport—it’s the realization of a lifelong passion. After standout college careers, a group of Haitian-American athletes is hoping to take the next step: making an NBA roster. Here’s a look at some of the top prospects to watch on draft night.
The first round of the 2025 NBA Draft takes place Wednesday, June 25, and will air on ABC and ESPN.
Earlier this year, The Haitian Times spotlighted current Haitian professional basketball players. Now, here are four more athletes hoping to join that growing list of Haitian stars in the NBA.
Almonor is coming off a strong March Madness run with the storied basketball program at Kentucky, reaching the Sweet 16. He made history as the first player in program history to join the 50-40-90 club, shooting 50% from the field, 40% from the three-point range, and 90% from the free throw line in a season.
Lorient has played forward for both Florida Atlantic University and the University of North Texas. While at FAU, he helped lead the team to the Final Four during the 2022–23 season under former head coach Dusty May.
Sanon declared for the 2025 NBA Draft after playing his freshman year at Arizona State University. He has since transferred to St. John’s University, where he plans to continue developing his game next season.
A native of Clifton, New Jersey, Jourdain has played for both Temple and Memphis. He is one of only four Memphis players to appear in all 32 games last season, earning a career-high 25 starts.
