The organization Fanm Angaje brought together hundreds of participants on March 8 in Haiti’s capital to highlight women’s rights and their role in society.

Hundreds of women gathered in Port-au-Prince on Sunday, March 8, 2026, to mark International Women’s Day, during an event organized by the group Fanm Angaje, led by Marjorie Michel.

The gathering took place in an atmosphere marked by messages of mobilization and recognition of the essential role women play in Haitian society.

Speaking before a large crowd of participants, the organizers emphasized that the day represents an important moment of reflection on the struggles women have led for the recognition of their rights and for greater equality in social, political and economic life.

The ceremony also brought together several personalities involved in the women’s sector. Among them was Marie Yves Édouard, the representative of the women’s sector within Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), who attended the event alongside members and supporters of the organization.

One of the highlights of the gathering was the presentation of the Fanm Angaje Award 2026, which was granted this year to former Minister of Justice Emmelie Prophète. The award recognizes her commitment and contributions to public life.

Organizers also used the occasion to recall the historical struggles carried out by women to claim their rights and secure their place within society.

They stressed that despite progress made over the years, many challenges remain in terms of equality and women’s participation in decision-making spaces.

Through this initiative, Fanm Angaje aims to continue promoting women’s engagement and encouraging their active participation in different sectors of Haitian society while highlighting women whose careers and contributions stand out.
