The Government of Canada has officially delivered ten armored vehicles to the Haitian National Police (PNH), reinforcing international support for Haiti’s ongoing security efforts.

The handover ceremony took place on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the PNH General Directorate headquarters in Clercine, Port-au-Prince. The event was attended by Canadian Ambassador to Haiti André François Giroux, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, Acting Director General of the PNH Vladimyr Paraison, and senior police officials.

The armored vehicles are intended to enhance the operational capacity and mobility of Haitian security forces, particularly as they confront armed groups operating in and around the capital.

Canada Reaffirms Security Commitment to Haiti

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Giroux reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting Haiti’s stabilization efforts. He emphasized that the donation reflects ongoing bilateral cooperation aimed at restoring public security and strengthening state institutions.

Canada has been one of Haiti’s key international partners in security assistance, alongside other regional and international actors involved in efforts to counter gang violence and support institutional reform.

Haitian Government Welcomes Support

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé expressed gratitude on behalf of the Haitian government, describing the delivery as a concrete gesture of solidarity at a critical time for the country.

He reiterated the administration’s determination to restore security nationwide, stressing that improved stability is essential for economic recovery, public services, and the organization of future elections.

Why This Matters for Haiti Today

Haiti continues to face severe security challenges, particularly in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, where armed groups have expanded their influence over key neighborhoods and transportation routes.

The delivery of armored vehicles is expected to improve the HNP’s ability to conduct secure patrols and targeted operations in high-risk zones.

How will the armored vehicles help Haiti’s police?

They are designed to enhance protection, mobility, and operational capacity during anti-gang operations.

While security conditions remain fragile, international logistical support such as this is seen as an important component of broader stabilization efforts.

As Haiti navigates a complex political transition and persistent insecurity, cooperation between Haitian authorities and international partners continues to play a significant role in shaping the country’s immediate security outlook.
