BLUF: This is my personal point of view. The 2028 American presidential elections will not be decided at the voting booths but on our phone screens and Trump is setting the state for the next candidate

I firmly believe Donald Trump’s alignment with Elon Musk is not about financial backing—it’s about influence over X. I wouldn’t be surprised if he teams up with Mark Zuckerberg next. Why? Trump understands that future elections will not be decided by the most popular candidate but by who controls the flow of information.

Traditional media has long shaped public opinion, often in ways that don’t favor Trump. However, social media platforms offer an alternative, allowing Trump to bypass traditional gatekeepers and speak directly to his base. Leveraging platforms like X, Facebook, and Instagram might give him control to shape his messaging and public perception and counteract narratives that don’t align with his agenda. Besides Fox News and Truth Social, this expansion would be a powerful tool to influence voters and maintain relevance in the political landscape. It would give him and the Republican Party unlimited opportunities to reach millions of users and solidify a direct line of communication with his base, unfiltered by mainstream outlets.

Musk’s acquisition of X already shifted the platform toward less restrictive content policies, aligning with Trump’s long-standing complaints about censorship. If Trump can establish an alliance with Musk—or better yet, secure a foothold in X’s operations—he can influence how political narratives spread. But that might not be enough. This is where Zuckerberg comes in.

Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, remains a powerful force in digital communication. While Zuckerberg has distanced himself from overt political entanglements, he has also shown a willingness to adapt when pressured. If Trump sees an opportunity to influence Meta’s policies—whether through direct collaboration or political pressure—it would give him unprecedented access to the largest social media platforms.

This strategy isn’t just about his political ambitions; it’s about setting the stage for whoever the next Republican nominee will be. Whether he runs again or not, Trump is working to ensure that the GOP’s messaging dominates social media, creating a media ecosystem that favors his party’s candidates long after he leaves the spotlight.

Whether Zuckerberg joins Trump or Musk remains actively aligned with Trump, one thing is clear: the next political battle won’t just be at the ballot box—it will be fought on our screens.
