Miami-based internationally acclaimed artist Edouard Duval-Carrié has been selected to represent Haiti at the 2026 Venice Biennale

Regarded as one of the most influential international art exhibitions, the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia brings together artists from around the world to explore pressing questions of culture, politics and identity. Ahead of the May 9 opening, Duval-Carrié hosted a behind-the-scenes program at his Little Haiti studio last month.

Duval-Carrié’s work explores the intersections of history, politics and spirituality in Haiti and across the Caribbean. His installation for Venice is expected to draw from these themes to show evolving perspectives on Haiti’s past and present. A conversation that is especially timely at a time when questions of representation and cultural ownership are increasingly central to global conversations.

This year, Duval-Carrie collaborated with Vanessa Selk, founding artistic director of the Tout-Monde Art Foundation, to frame Haiti’s presence at the Biennale as more than a national showcase. To them, the appearance is also a reflection of diasporic influence, cultural memory and the evolving narratives of Caribbean identity.

Here are some photos from the Little Haiti event in April celebrating Duval-Carrié’s selection and from the pair as  the Biennale opened. The exhibition runs from May 9 through November 22, 2026.
