More than 200 people, including over 100 children, gathered for the first edition of “Ann Jwe Ansanm” — Haitian Creole for “Let’s Play Together” — a community initiative aiming to revive traditional Haitian games that organizers say are disappearing from the daily lives of younger generations. Haiti makes Bois-Caïman a national holiday 235 years after historic gathering 

According to an Aug. 10 announcement from the Haitian government, Aug. 14 will be observed annually as the Commemoration of Bois-Caïman and the Day of Union for Freedom. The decision gives official state recognition to a date long commemorated by Haitians, historians and scholars as a symbol of resistance, unity and the struggle for freedom. Haiti’s Gonaïves keeps World Cup spirit alive with 48th ‘Mundialito’ championship 

Teams come from neighborhoods throughout Gonaïves, including Raboteau, Rabeau, Acipha, Seprenne and Lòtbò Kanal. Nearby municipalities in the Artibonite Department, including Gros-Morne, Saint-Michel de l’Attalaye and Anse-Rouge, are also represented. Even the neighboring Northwest Department also features a representative in the championship through Tabasco, a club from Jean-Rabel. ‘Limyè Sou Mwen’: Photography program gives displaced Haitian girls a space to heal and create 

From Aug. 4 to 19, a group of 25 girls, ages 14 to 17, is participating in the training workshop, part of Haiti’s Photography Fortnight. At the end of the 15-day program, participants will receive certificates. They also will display their photographs in a showcase scheduled for World Photography Day on Aug. 19.
