Cap-Haïtien starts anniversary day with heartfelt prayers at Our Lady mass | PHOTOS

CAP-HAITIEN — Cap-Haïtien residents kicked off celebrations for the city’s 354th anniversary with a mass in honor of Our Lady of the Assumption, the city’s patron saint, on Thursday morning.

The Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral was packed with hundreds of worshippers, most of whom were dressed in blue, the color associated with Our Lady of the Assumption or Mary, the mother of Jesus. During the service, worshipers engaged in intense prayers—some while holding their hands up—sang passionately while attentively listening to the priest as he preached. 

After the service, some worshipers walked under the statue of Our Lady of the Assumption to make prayer requests to her.

After the service, residents will attend a gastro and craft fair on The Boulevard road and at in the afternoon.
