Biden Humanitarian Parole Program paused by administration | BREAKING NEWS

Biden’s popular humanitarian parole program has been paused due to fraud allegations, the administration announced Friday. 

“DHS takes any abuse of its processes very seriously,” spokeswoman Erin Heeter said in a statement. “Out of an abundance of caution, DHS has temporarily paused the issuance of advanced travel authorizations for new beneficiaries while it undertakes a review of supporter applications. DHS will restart application processing as quickly as possible, with appropriate safeguards.”

The decision to pause the program to investigate fraud allegations arose from a report by conservative think thank, Federation for American Immigration Reform. In their report they highlight results of an internal review performed by USCIS that found “patterns, trends, and potential fraud indicators” suggesting “massive fraud in the application process.”

Shortly after the program launched, The Haitian Times was also the target of a scam where badactors erroneously told parole applicants that they can facilitate a sponsor through The Haitian Times. Two victims of the illegal scheme told The Haitian Times they were charged $200 and $500, separately, to have messages sent using the outlet’s comment feature.

Enacted in 2023, the program admits up to 360,000 people a year from Haiti, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba into the United States. The policy, which seeks to provide lawful pathways for migrants from Haiti, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba has seen significant participation from Haitians, with 138,000 individuals benefiting from the program since its launch, according to data from U.S. Homeland Security.
