Ariana Milagro Lafond represents Haiti at ‘House of Challenge’ with youth-focused project

Haitian influencer Ariana Milagro Lafond is representing Haiti at the eighth edition of the “House of Challenge,” an international competition bringing together young leaders in Lomé, Togo.

The contest gathers participants from around the world to present projects focused on social impact, entrepreneurship and innovation. Competitors pitch their ideas for mentorship, international exposure and funding, including a top prize of $25,000.

Lafond, 19, a student of diplomacy and international relations, has built a large following on social media, with about 15 million followers on TikTok and more than 800,000 on Instagram. She is among a growing number of Haitian digital creators using global platforms to spotlight local challenges and solutions.

At this year’s competition, Lafond wants a project centered on youth and opportunity, as she is addressing two persistent challenges in Haiti: child nutrition and youth unemployment. 

“Despite its glorious history, Haiti faces many challenges: poverty, limited access to education, fragile infrastructure,” she told the audience. “Many children do not have enough to eat, and young people often lack opportunities to develop their skills.”

Her proposal includes a dual approach. The first component focuses on improving food security by providing nutritious meals to children in underserved communities — an issue that has worsened amid Haiti’s ongoing economic and security crises.

“Each child has the right to grow up healthy and have the means to concentrate on learning,” Lafond said.

The second component centers on vocational training. The initiative aims to train 50 young people across ten departments in Haiti in cultural and visual arts, equipping them with both creative and entrepreneurial skills.

“This training allows them to acquire a trade, develop skills, and achieve financial independence,” she said. “Each young person learns not only technique but also how to create, sell and showcase their work.”

A global platform for local solutions and amplifying Haitian voices

The “House of Challenge” has become a platform for youth-led innovation, particularly from the Global South. Participants present scalable solutions in areas such as education, agriculture, technology and community development, often in front of investors, mentors and international organizations.

For Haiti, where humanitarian needs continue to grow alongside political instability and gang violence, such platforms offer rare opportunities to highlight grassroots solutions driven by young leaders.

Lafond emphasized that her project goes beyond skills training.

“It brings dignity, hope and a future perspective for Haitian youth,” she said. “By helping children and young people through food and training, we contribute to building a stronger future for the country.”

Through her participation, Lafond aims to elevate Haitian creativity and resilience on an international stage, countering narratives that often focus solely on crisis.

Her presence at the competition reflects a broader trend of Haitian youth leveraging digital influence and global networks to advocate for social change.

As the “House of Challenge” continues to expand, initiatives like Lafond’s highlight the role of young innovators in shaping solutions to some of Haiti’s most pressing issues.
