The Alexandre family mourns the loss of Rose Marie Claudette Alexandre (née Mondélus) and celebrates a life filled with love, wisdom, and resilience. Affectionately known as “Dette” to her siblings and “Mommy” to her children, she was born on Aug. 6, 1940, in Sainte-Suzanne, Haiti, to Nativida and Leconte Mondélus.
The second of 11 siblings, Rose Marie Claudette demonstrated a sharp intellect and a deep passion for education from an early age. A gifted student, she attended Lycée Philippe Guerrier in Cap-Haïtien before continuing her studies at Lycée des Jeunes Filles in Port-au-Prince, where she graduated at the top of her class. She was known for her determination, independence, and pursuit of excellence, as well as her role as a peacemaker within her family and community.
Determined to pursue a career in education and the arts, she attended L’École Nationale des Arts (ENARTS) in Port-au-Prince with the mission of training in theatrical and practical teaching. Senior executives recognized her talents and encouraged her to lead in education, research, and cultural administration.
Rose Marie Claudette later married Emmanuel Alexandre, with whom she had two children, Michèle Alexandre and Emmanuel Alexandre Jr. She dedicated years of service to education, teaching at the School of the Frères de l’Instruction Chrétienne in Pétion-Ville and L’École Dargaisseau Lespinasse in Port-au-Prince.
Seeking greater opportunities, she immigrated to the United States with her two children, dedicating decades to working tirelessly as a nurse’s aide before retiring in her 70s.
A devout Catholic, Rose Marie Claudette deeply valued her faith and relationship with God. She adored her children and passed away peacefully with both by her side.
She is survived by her children, Michèle Alexandre and Emmanuel Alexandre Jr.; grandchildren, Eshe, Dahomey, and Massamba; and her siblings, Louise Lunia Jean Louis and family, Louis Jacques Mondélus and family, Jean René Mondélus and family, Anne Edeline Mondélus, Yves Mary Mondélus and family, Marie Antoinette Mondélus and family, and Myrna Mondélus and family.
She also leaves behind a legacy of nieces, nephews, cousins, and the extended families of Alexandre, Mondélus, Durand, Calixte, Guerrier, Bien-Aimé, and Achilles.
May God grant eternal rest to the soul of Rose Marie Claudette Alexandre.
