The Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida (HACCOF) has announced a new scholarship program designed to support first-generation college students in Miami-Dade County. Funded by Miami-Dade County, The HACCOF scholarship program will award $2,500 to each of 102 selected students, aiming to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with college tuition.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet several criteria. They should be aged between 17 and 26, admitted to or currently enrolled in a Florida four-year college or university with at least 24 credits completed, and pursuing a degree in business or public sciences. Additionally, they must be full-time students taking at least 12 credits per semester, have lived in Miami-Dade County for at least one year before applying, and provide proof of residency. Applicants must also be the first in their immediate family to seek a bachelor’s degree.

Miami-Dade County is home to a large Haitian population, and many Haitian-American students face unique challenges as first-generation college attendees.

The application deadline is August 4, 2024, at 11:59 PM. Students can find the application form and more information here.
